Soulab Philosophy:

Soulab is a recording label dedicated to modern soul music... with soul.
Soulab brings a musical breath of fresh air onto the soul nation with a full
sound spectrum of good grooves: Soul, House, Jazz, Nu Soul, Broken Beat, Doo Wop, Afro Beat, Latin, Funk… Old school, New school ? Gold school !
Call it Nu Soul, Soulful House, Hi-tech Soul or whatever might sound good to you.

We're always looking back to the lights of Soul Music golden age but we live here & now, and technology allows for new horizons in creation.
And living souls do enjoy new horizons...
But we know that where there's no roots, there's no branchs. We make music for people with souls, not for clones. Technology is nothing without love & wisdom.
The most powerful force on Earth still is the human soul...

In our Soulab, we seek new magical formulas to translate the power of soul into music. Close your eyes and imagine a jam with Marvin Gaye, Carl Craig, Grand Master Flash & Pharoah Sanders...
We use the best of the both worlds, soul & technology, acoustics & electronics, kicks & harmonies, analogic & digital, mix & remix, science & love, tradition & innovation...
It's a retrofuturistic thing!

Soulab alchemists are: prodigal singer & multi-instrumentist Allen Hoist from New York, amazing producer & organist Dan Electro, the Uptown Funk Empire project orchestrated by funkysoul brother Bruno "Patchworks" Hovart. We're also lucky enough to have put together some of our studio experiments with such talented artists as 4 Hero, Les Nubians, Noel Mc Koy, Kaidi Tatham, Mario Canonge, Swell Session, Raw Deal, Linley Marth, Franck Roger, Ravi Magnifique, Greg Gauthier & Tony L, Juan Rozoff... All these brilliant artists keep soul music on the right track.

Stay tuned... Soul's back !

Soulab History:

Soulab goes all the way back to our forst management & booking agency, which was called Soulution and is now closed.
Between 2000 and 2005, Soulution was involved in the production of many various events & parties with Norman Jay, 4 Hero, Allen Hoist, Kaidi Tatham, Les Nubians, Gilles Peterson, Anga Diaz, DJ Morpheus, Seiji, Wunmi, Juan Rozoff, A Guy Called Gerald, Lord Zeljko, Daddy Crucial, Afronaught, Dj Oil, China, Daddy Morry, Mario Canonge, Dj Spider, Marylin David, Chateau Flight, Cut killer, Eva Gardner, Shade of Soul, Tanya Saint Val, Rainer Truby...

Additionally, Soulution worked with a wide array of festivals such as Montreux Jazz Festival, Les Transmusicales, Arrezzo Wave, Nancy Jazz Pulsations, Respect, Tribu Jazz festival, Dance Valley, Cosmopolis, Francofolies De Montreal...
We also acted as a booking agent in France for Norman Jay, 4 Hero, DJ Morpheus, and, last but not least, the prodigal singer & instumentist Allen Hoist.

Allen Hoist is the main reason for our evolution from booking to recording activities. In 2004, because a record label found itself unable to release Allen Hoist's first single "Inner City Blues" as planned initially, Soulution's staff founded an independent label to make sure it the record could come out anyway.
In view of the loads of work required to productively manage a label, the soulution staff decided to close the booking department in 2005 and focus on these recording label adventures...

By the way, we first started the company Soulville sarl, and then the label Soulab. Now it's kinda like that Stevie Wonder song: "We feel as if this is the beginning of a love of one million years..."
